Numerical Simulations of Plume Rise

Pages 46-50 | Received 04 Dec 1985, Accepted 14 Apr 1987, Published online: 08 Mar 2012

Abstract

Results from a numerical plume rise and dispersion model are presented in a way analogous to the much used empirical equation of Briggs to determine plume rise under a wide variety of combinations of plume temperature, plume exit velocity and wind speed. The results are in good agreement over a wide range, yet extend the usefulness of the Briggs-type approach to parameter combinations for which no adequate computation using empirical formulae is possible.
