Abstract
A soft chemical process was used for the synthesis of tunnel manganese oxides with Rb+ as a template. A birnessite-type sodium manganese oxide with a layered structure was used as the precursor, and Rb+ templates were inserted into the interlayer space of the layered structure by an ionexchange reaction. The Rb+-exchanged birnessite-type manganese oxide was treated under hydrothermal conditions to transform the layered structure to a tunnel structure. Two kinds of tunnel manganese oxides can be obtained by the hydrothemally treatment above 200°C.
