Synthesis of tunnel manganese oxides from layered manganese oxide by hydrothermal soft chemical process with Rb⁺ as template

Abstract

A soft chemical process was used for the synthesis of tunnel manganese oxides with Rb⁺ as a template. A birnessite-type sodium manganese oxide with a layered structure was used as the precursor, and Rb⁺ templates were inserted into the interlayer space of the layered structure by an ionexchange reaction. The Rb⁺-exchanged birnessite-type manganese oxide was treated under hydrothermal conditions to transform the layered structure to a tunnel structure. Two kinds of tunnel manganese oxides can be obtained by the hydrothemally treatment above 200°C.
