Abstract
The growth and the characterization of crystals with various impurities represents both a scientific and practical interest. In the present work the iduence of impurities on the morphology and optical properties of crystals of zinc oxide is investigated. It is clarified, that the zincite structure is very receptive to the introduction of elements of the IV and V groups. As a consequence, the relative growth rates of faces, colour and morphology of crystals are changed. From the absorption spectra in the domain 30000-11000 cm−1, are established the valence and peculiarities of captured impurities in various sectors of growth. The presence of impurities results in a modification of the ratio of growth rates of main faces, that will allow to grow zincite crystals of large dimensions.
