Pressure dependence of inorganic electron-transfer reactions in solution

Pages 251-259 | Received 19 Dec 1990, Published online: 19 Aug 2006

Abstract

The application of high pressure kinetic techniques in the study of the mechanisms of chemical reactions in solution has greatly assisted the elucidation of the underlying reaction mechanisms. In this respect the pressure dependence of a series of typical innersphere and outersphere electron-transfer reactions between transition metal complexes in solution has been investigated in recent years. The results of these studies are reviewed, and the possible value of pressure as a kinetic parameter in such systems is discussed. Present and future activities in our own work are highlighted.
