Polymerization of benzene and thiophene at high pressure: What is the reaction path?

Abstract

The pressure-induced density variations have been shown to induce irreversible transformation of the cyclic systems such as benzene and thiophene. Using previous investigations such as Raman scattering, infrared absorption, Brillouin scattering, refractive index determination and visual observations, we propose a reaction path for these transitions consistent with crystallographic data.
