Thermophysical properties of liquid cobalt

Abstract

Wire shaped cobalt samples are resistively volume heated as part of a fast capacitor discharge apparatus. Measurements allow us to determine heat capacity and the mutual dependencies between enthalpy, electrical resistivity, temperature and density for liquid cobalt. High pressures are used to obtain liquid states up to 4000 K above the normal boiling point. An estimation of critical point data for cobalt is given.
