Liposomology has dominated the world of drug delivery systems for nearly 4 decades. It has served as a paradigm of what can be achieved when drug delivery technology is developed in conjunction with studies on system interaction with the biological milieu in vivo. Much of what has been achieved with the application of liposomes in therapeutic and preventive medicine in laboratories and clinics worldwide has been greatly promoted over the years through the live communication of data, ideas, and concepts.
The “Liposome Advances” conference series founded in 1990, has served as a Forum where liposomologists can meet, present their latest data, exchange ideas, and learn from each other. The series was subsequently adopted by the International Liposome Society (ILS) with its first conference held in 2005.
The present issue of the Journal contains some of the proceedings of the 2nd “Liposome Advances” ILS conference held during 9–12 December 2006 at the School of Pharmacy in London. On behalf of the ILS I would like to thank all contributors for their support of the Society and the Journal.
