Abstract

This article presents a detailed investigation of the use of the Ikegami propagation model in the prediction of the electric field in various operational conditions, illustrating modern scenarios in wireless communications. The electromagnetic theory necessary for the understanding of the Ikegami model is described, and an approximation used in the original formulation of the model is removed in order to assess the possibility of extending its applicability. The model can also consider various parameters of propagation such as the radiation pattern of real antennas and surrounding architecture in the propagation environment, as well a line-of-sight propagation in presence of obstacles, yielding the possibility of analyzing modern complex scenarios.
