Abstract

A novel low-profile circularly polarized (CP) microstrip antenna with broad beamwidth is presented. A four-way power divider made by three Wilkinson power dividers is designed to feed this antenna. With eight curved microstrip resonant structures loaded around the circular radiating patch, the designed antenna has a height of only about and exhibits broad beamwidth for both -plane and -plane. The relation between the antenna radiation property and the resonant loading structures is analyzed and discussed. Measurement results show that the 3 dB beamwidth of the fabricated one is more than with good CP performance (axial ratio [AR] < 4 dB). Thus, this antenna can be used in occasions when CP antenna with broad beamwidth performance is desired.
