Multi-Resonant Metamaterial Design Based On Concentric V-Shaped Magnetic Resonators

Abstract

—Experimental and numerical studies of a new multiresonant metamaterial composed of concentric V-shaped magnetic resonators are presented. The introduced metamaterial composition exhibits multi-resonant behavior due to distinct magnetic resonances caused by the self and mutual couplings of each inclusion. The number of resonances can be determined by the number of V-shaped resonators of a unit cell. The constitutive parameters of the structure are extracted from the simulated and measured S-parameters. The extracted parameters show that the proposed metamaterial provides negative permeability at around each resonance. Magnetic field distribution is also shown to identify the character of resonances. Finally, the scalability of the V-shaped inclusions to higher frequencies is demonstrated. The proposed resonant structure can be a good candidate for various metamaterial applications in different portions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
