Abstract

This paper proposes novel high isolation transmitter and receiver antennas that make use of high-impedance surfaces (HISs) for repeater applications. Both the microstrip antennas and HISs are designed to operate at a frequency of 2.05 GHz for Korean WCDMA services. The HIS proposed in this paper can effectively absorb back radiation and surface waves from each antenna, and this reduces coupling between the two antennas. Therefore, it is experimentally demonstrated that the use of HISs improves isolation by 6 and 10 dB, depending on the orientation of the two antennas.
