Abstract

Quasi-static analysis of electromagnetic scattering from a layered sphere is presented in this paper. Three regions occupying sphere, layer and host medium are assumed to be of chiral metamaterial of different parameters. Fields in three regions are determined by using appropriate boundary conditions. Expressions for polarization moments and polarizabilities are also derived. The effects on polarizabilities are analysed with respect to different material parameters. Special cases of chiral metamaterial for scatterer and host medium are also taken into account. These special cases include chiral nihility, nihility, epsilon negative, mu negative and double negative. It has been noted how different the host medium contributes from the scatterer when any of them is analysed under same conditions. Convergence of results for varying situations is observed and occurrence of resonance is noted. Effects of losses and dispersion properties are also presented.
