Abstract

Ternary layer-based one-dimensional photonic crystal (1D PC) kind of optical filter is discussed that operates in the visible and near-infrared regimes of the electromagnetic spectrum. The 1D PC filter is comprised of bimetallic structure having three periodic nanolayers of gold, flint glass (SiO2), and silver. Dispersion and reflection characteristics of the proposed filter are analyzed by implementing the concept of transfer matrix and taking into account the incidence excitations under different angles. It is found that the structure exhibits behavior similarly to notch, comb, and Fabry–Pérot types of filter. It is expected that such filters would be useful in integrated optic as well as in sensing applications.
