Abstract

A complementary pair of antennas with continuous resistive loading was implemented on a printed circuit board (PCB) with a resistive layer, and the characteristics were investigated for pulse radiation. The antennas considered in this paper are the resistively loaded dipole and its complementary conductively loaded slot (CS). The continuous loading profile was realized by tapering the resistive layer of the PCB through etching processes. With the proposed method of implementation, precise realization of the profile is made possible, while at the same time, the resulting structures are mechanically stable. The feeding structures for the proposed antennas were investigated to achieve stable impedance matching over a broad frequency range. In addition, in the case of the CS, the resistive termination of the PCB was investigated to reduce late-time ringing. The fabricated antennas were then measured and analyzed in the time domain for use in broadband pulse radiation.
