Abstract

A high-gain antipodal Vivaldi antenna with multi-layer planar dielectric lens (AVA-MPDL) is proposed. Compared to the conventional AVA design, the gain of the antenna has been greatly improved by applying the MPDL in front of the antenna’s aperture at the upper working frequencies. Additionally, beam-tilting in E-plane at higher frequencies has also been overcome. The modified antenna has been fabricated and measured, the measurement results show that the frequency band for S11 < −10 dB is from 1.3 to more than 30 GHz, and it is in good agreement with the simulated ones. Gain of the antenna has been improved by the MPDL lens in a wide frequency band (4–27 GHz) and the gain up to 16 dB at higher frequencies.
