Swapped double-sided EBG power/ground plane for broadband suppression of noise and radiation emission

ABSTRACT

A novel swapped double-sided electromagnetic bandgap (DS-EBG) power/ground plane is proposed with broadband suppression of the simultaneous switching noise (SSN) and low radiation emission. By using the double-sided structure, the equivalent inductance between the EBG cells can be well improved and result in the broadband suppression of SSN. In the proposed structure, pairs of via are used to build the three-dimensional bridges between the swapped power/ground planes. They also lead to the suppressions of SSN be improved. Simulated and measured results show good agreements with each other. Additionally, the measured radiation emission of the proposed structure shows that it has lower electromagnetic interference compared with the two typical reference boards.

Teng-Fei Wei received the B.S. degree in electronic information science and technology from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, in 2015. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in radio physics at UESTC. His research interests include periodic structures, electromagnetic scattering inversion and deep learning.

Xiao-Hua Wang

Xiao-Hua Wang received the B.S. degree in microwave engineering, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in radio physics from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, in 2002, 2005, and 2008, respectively. From Mar. 2008 to Feb. 2009, he was an RF Research Engineer with Huawei Company, Shanghai, China. From Mar. 2009 to Feb. 2010, he was with the Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, as a Research Staff. Then, he joined UESTC as an associate professor. Currently, he is a professor. His research interests include computational electromagnetics and antenna design.

Cheng-Hui Qu

Cheng-Hui Qu received the B.Eng. degree in communication engineering from the Shandong University of Science and Technology, Qingdao, in 2017. Currently, he is pursuing the master degree in radio physics at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China. His research interests include inverse scattering problems based on deep learning.
