Electromagnetic fields of a horizontal infinitely long wire buried in three-layered medium

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the electromagnetic fields of a horizontal infinitely long wire source buried in a three-layered medium are studied. The source and the observation points are located in the middle region. The expressions of the electromagnetic waves are more complex because of the multiple reflections from the up and down boundaries. The electromagnetic field components between the two boundaries are given, and the trapped surface waves and lateral waves along the two boundaries are computed. The analysis and computations have some practical applications in the line sources buried in the earth or cements.

GuoHua Lin was born in Yizheng, Jiangsu Province, China, in 1979. From 2009 to 2012, he was engaged in the research of electromagnetic wave propagation in the Department of Information Science and Electronic Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. He received his Ph.D. degree in electromagnetic field and microwave technology from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nanjing, China, in 2015. Since 2018, he has been a teacher with the Faculty of Electronic Information Engineering, Huaiyin Institute of Technology, Huai’an, China. His research interests include radio wave propagation theory and its applications.

YongJian Zhi

YongJian Zhi was born in Shangshui County, Henan Province, China, in 1982. He received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and automation from the School of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Now, he is a senior engineer in CRRC ZhuZhou Institute Co., Ltd, Zhuzhou, China. His research interests include electromagnetic wave theory and applications.

XiaoQi Yin

XiaoQi Yin was born in Huai’an, Jiangsu Province, China, in 1975. She received her M.Sc. from Nanjing Normal University. She has been a professor with the Faculty of Electronic Information Engineering, Huaiyin Institute of Technology, Huai’an, China. Her research interests include wireless communication and radio wave propagation theory.

SiWei Ren

SiWei Ren was born in Zaozhuang, Shandong Province, China, in 1983. He received his Ph.D. degree in electromagnetic field and microwave technology from Shanghai JiaoTong University. Since 2017, he has been a teacher with the Faculty of Electronic Information Engineering, Huaiyin Institute of Technology, Huai’an, China. His research interests include electromagnetic wave propagation, filters, couplers and power dividers.

Tong He

Tong He was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, in 1990.He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering and automation from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 2013, and the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from The University of Michigan-Dearborn, Dearborn, MI, USA, in 2014, and the Ph.D. degree in electromagnetic field and microwave technology with the College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2019. He is now a researcher at the Intelligent Network Research Center, Zhejiang Lab, Hangzhou, China. His current research interests include very low frequency wave propagation and antenna theory.
