Editorial 2018 for Ocular Immunology and Inflammation

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the first edition of Ocular Immunology and Inflammation for 2018. As is usual for this first edition of the year, I would like to both reflect on what we have achieved over the last 12 months and point to some highlights for the coming year.

With the 2018 edition of OII, Volume 26, we will publish our 10th anniversary of the “Disease of the Year” reviews. For 2017 we analyzed the classic uveitis disorders of “Virus-induced anterior Uveitis.” The Editorial Board consisted of Soon Phaik Chee (Singapore), Laure Caspers (Belgium), Mamta Agarwal (India), Jolanda de Groot and Aniki Rothova (The Netherlands), Phil Murray (UK), Ilknur Tugal-Tutkun (Turkey) and Debra Goldstein (USA). Most of the 15 planned reviews have been submitted or have been published recently.

We have planned, for 2018, to analyze one of the typical complications of most types of uveitis, “Macular Edema,” and are again planning a series of approximately nine topics. The Editorial Board is under the lead of Vishali Gupta (India).

In 2017, Soon Phaik Chee from Singapore, the President of the Asian-Pacific Inflammation Group, published the first of a series of supplements to OII regarding the Epidemiology of Uveitis. The first part analyzes uveitis in the Asian Pacific Area and summarizes data from 14 countries. We hope that a similar project from African countries will be finalized in the near-future.

OII’s impact factor has remained stable this year at 2.453 (2.481 in 2015, 1.972 in 2014), and is currently ranked 18 out of 59 journals in the Ophthalmology category. We continue to see content growth as OII’s page budget is increasing in 2018 from 900 pages to 1,360 pages and will now be publishing 8 issues.

I would like to again thank all contributors, reviewers and reviewing editors for supporting this journal. I encourage you to submit your best work to OII so that we can continue to provide our readers with the highest quality articles and reviews from the field of ocular immunology and inflammation.

Thank you for your continuing support and Happy New Year!
