Towards axiomatization of music perceptionFootnote1Footnoteast;

Pages 247-281 | Published online: 03 Jun 2008

Abstract

We postulate the following properties of audio perception: Axiom 1 (Logarithmic pitch) The frequency axis is logarithmically scaled. Axiom 2 (Insensitivity to the phase of the signal) Only discrete power spectra are considered. The principle of correlativity of perception is axiomatized as follows: Axiom 3 (Grouping principle) Data can be grouped with respect to structural identity. Axiom 4 (Simplicity principle) Data are represented in the least complex way in the sense of Kolmogorov (least memory storage required).
