Rediscovery of the Southern Crested Newt, Triturus (cristatus) karelini (Salamandridae), from its easternmost locality in Iran

Abstract

The Southern Crested Newt (Triturus (cristatus) karelini) was rediscovered in Gorgan, Iran, on the south-eastern Caspian Sea. Information on habitat, ,measurements, and colour is given. This is the easternmost locality of this species. The specimen had a hexadactyle hind limb.

Kurzfassung

Der Südliche Kammolch (Triturus (cristatus) karelini) wurde in Gorgan, Iran, an der Südostküste des Kaspischen Meeres wiederentdeckt, Informationen über Habitat, Körpermaße und Färbung werden gegeben. Es handelt sich um das östlichste Vorkommen der Art. Das gesammelte Individuum hatts an den Hintergliedmaßen 6 Zehen.
