Index enhancement and absorption compensation via quantum coherence control in multicomponent media

Abstract

Conditions for strong refractive index enhancement (n ∼ 5 to 10) in the presence of complete absorption compensation are presented and discussed in terms of a generic model system composed of three-level atom inclusions in a dielectric host material.
