Abstract
A personal view is given of the most exciting recent developments in high-resolution laser spectroscopy of atoms. Where possible, experiments on one-electron atoms are used to illustrate the rapid progress in this field. I discuss possible ways of increasing the precision of measurements beyond a few parts in 1010 available at present and look at possible methods of pushing towards precision of a few parts in 1015.
