Phase Conjugation

Pages 449-472 | Published online: 01 Mar 2007

Abstract

The background mechanisms responsible for the production of phase-conjugate waves are presented in a unified way. One set of wave equations can be used to describe both four-wave mixing and stimulated backscattering phase-conjugate mirrors. The nonlinear-optical mechanism of photorefraction is described in detail and several of the most exciting potential applications of phase-conjugate mirrors are highlighted.
