Conservation Laws for Free Electromagnetic Fields

Pages 109-115 | Received 12 Oct 1993, Accepted 21 Apr 1994, Published online: 01 Mar 2007

Abstract

New conservation laws are derived for free electromagnetic fields propagating into a half-space. Such fields can be represented by an angular spectrum of electromagnetic plane waves that contains only homogeneous plane waves. The similarity between some of these new conservation laws and the Poynting theorem is examined in detail.
