Abstract
Optical waveguides have been fabricated in Cr3+:Gd3Ga5O12 by the method of He4+ ion implantation at energies of around 2·8 MeV. Preliminary results indicate losses of the order of 3 dB cm−1 with little or no effect on the absorption, emission or radiative lifetimes of the implanted material.
