Figure-eight fibre laser stable operating regimes

Abstract

Numerical simulations are reported on a figure-eight laser geometry that includes propagation in the amplifier; the model includes periodic amplification and loss leading to sideband generation. A maximum amplification is observed beyond which no stable pulses are found. We find that the pulse stability is also dependent on the amplifier's length.
