The journal is truly international in scope and strives to remain efficient in operation. During 2008, manuscripts were received from 51 countries. On average, authors received considered responses to their submissions in 48 days. This was only achieved by the hard work of those who reviewed papers, listed below, to whom the Board of Editors is very grateful. The work of reviewers is appreciated by authors, for the Editors frequently receive messages of thanks for the contributions that reviews have made to the evolution of papers. The Editors are always glad to hear from anybody who wishes to review for the journal: they should have themselves published at international level and be able to produce reviews within two months of accepting an invitation to do so. The development of the journal, with its emphasis on papers with a sound theoretical base, empirical content, and implications for the practice of science education, continues apace. At the end of 2008, the Board of Editors was further strengthened by the appointment of Professor M. Gail Jones, North Carolina State University, NC, USA. In 2009, Volume 31 will consist of 18 issues.
