Detailed balance and photoluminescence in hydrogenated amorphous silicon

Pages 333-337 | Received 08 Mar 1989, Accepted 13 Mar 1989, Published online: 02 Sep 2006

Abstract

It has been argued that in the case of hydrogenated amorphous silicon the principle of detailed balance leads to inconsistency between the measured values of absorption coefficient and photoluminescence intensity. This argument is examined in detail, and a clear condition for inconsistency is established. The experimental evidence that this condition is violated is examined and found to be inconclusive.
