On the Mott derivation of crack velocity

Pages 231-233 | Received 09 May 1994, Accepted 15 Jun 1994, Published online: 27 Sep 2006

Abstract

Using the experimental result that a crack begins its dynamic elongation at a length which is larger than that given by the Griffith criterion, a new Mott-like velocity dependence on crack length is obtained. This relation is shown to possess several advantages, which include, among others, the possibility of being integrated and an asymptotic approach to the original Mott relation.
