Abstract
The experiences of Black students in social work education has received attention in a number of publications over recent years. Perceptions and experiences of discrimination have been highlighted at the same time as moves to increase the proportion of Black students in social work education. The literature available covers experience in both college-based and work-based learning settings and both have parallels with the documented experience of Black people as workers in social work settings. After exploring Black people's experiences both of work and qualifying training in social work education, this paper discusses the process of introducing consultant for Black social work students on placement, involving both a support group for those students and individual contact.
