Optimization of the shape of edges for welded joints with fillet welds

Abstract

The design of permanent welded joints with fillet joints, characterized by the bevelling of the edges with the depth decreasing with an increase in the distance from the edge of the welded joint to the centre, is described. It is shown that when producing permanent joints with the bevelled edges of variable depth, the volume of deposited metal can be reduced by 35% with the corresponding reduction in the production costs of the process without reducing the load-carrying capacity of the welded joint.
