Special features of metallurgical processes in the electroslag welding of structural steels using fluxes with reduced basicity

Abstract

The metallurgical special features of the electroslag process using low-activity fluxes with the reduced basicity are investigated. The increase in the silica content of the fluxes–slags up to 15–25% improves the technological characteristics of the electroslag process and ensures efficient desulphurization of metal. When the silica content of the slag is increased above 25%, the oxygen content and the content of the non-metallic inclusions in the remelted metal rapidly increase.
