Abstract
The results of investigations of the effect of variable composition of the gas shielding medium on the energy parameters and the cross section of the arc column in a shielding gas are presented. It is shown that at the periodic variation of the composition of the shielding gas from helium to argon the pressure of the welding arc increases in cycles for a short period of time and welding current surges. Periodic changes in the composition of the gas shielding medium in the arc zone results in refining of the structure of the weld metal and increase the solidification cracking resistance of aluminium alloys.
