Abstract

To reduce stresses in butt welding of polyethylene pipes for gas pipelines at the temperature of the surrounding air lower than the normal temperature, it is proposed to preheat the ends of the pipes to be welded with a preheating tool. The results of calculations of the non-stationary temperature field in the pipe wall are used for recommending the procedure for determining the most uniform temperature distribution in the range permissible for welding.
