Mechanism of formation of the joint in diffusion welding of titanium

Abstract

The hypothesis of the role of the internal stresses in the mechanism of formation of diffusion-welded joints is formulated and substantiated. It is based on the activation of welded surfaces and also the formation in the contact zone of microreliefs, separating the contact gap into a number of considerably smaller pores, and on the formation in the gap of centres around which sintering processes can take place without participation of external compressive pressures.
