Formation of structural and mechanical inhomogeneities in explosion welding of aluminium to titanium

, &

Abstract

The results of investigation of the bonding zone in the titanium–aluminium composite produced by explosion welding in conditions close to the upper boundary of weldability are presented. Local heterogeneous alloys consist of a solid solution matrix based on aluminium with aluminium nitride particles. The increase in deformation energy resulted in the increase in the size of the area, the volume of the alloys and the volume content of the aluminides. Formation of the alloys did not reduce the maximum strain capacity of the joint.
