Determination of the error of reproduction of the temperature field in submerged arc welding using the equivalent heat source

Abstract

An equivalent volume heat source with the arc power, uniformly distributed in the half-ellipsoid, the axes of which are equal to the half-width of the welded joint and the penetration depth, is proposed. The experimental and calculated thermal cycles in submerged arc welding are in good agreement. The effect of the calculation error on the evaluation of the cooling time in the volume of the softening zone is analysed.
