Changes in the structure of materials in brazing niobium with sapphire using a glass–ceramic solder

Abstract

The changes in the structure of joints between sapphire and niobium produced by high-temperature brazing using a CaO–Al2O3 brazing alloy are investigated. The effect of temperature on the recrystallization processes in niobium and its alloys with zirconium on the formation of the second phase in the CaO–Al2O3 system and the diffusion of niobium in the glass–ceramic solder is investigated. The optimum conditions of brazing the niobium alloy with sapphire are determined.
