Extending the service life of pipelines with weld defectsFootnote

, &

Abstract

The stress state of welded joints in pipelines with spherical defects is analysed. It is shown that in biaxial loading conditions, characteristic of the operation of pipelines with internal pressure, the theoretical stress intensity factor kσ = 2.1. It is also shown that safe operation of a pipeline with defects in welded joints can be ensured by placing a band with a guaranteed interference the magnitude of which should be determined to ensure that the maximum service stresses in the defective area do not exceed the limit of destruction of the material of the welded joint.
