Single-pass arc welding of thick plate structures of 22K steel under a thin slag layer

, &

Abstract

The efficiency of single-pass automatic arc welding under a thin slag layer (ATL) with the forced formation of weld metal of welded joints in 22K steel with a thickness of 70 mm is shown. The optimum heat input in ATL welding makes it possible to produce in a single pass a welded joint with a finer structure and higher mechanical properties in comparison with electroslag welding. Recommendations for using the ATL method in welding production are outlined.
