Increase of mechanical characteristics of titanium alloy VT3-1 by local laser impact treatment

, , &

ABSTRACT

The paper discusses the effect of local laser treatment of Titus is a new alloy on the mechanical properties of the material and welded joints. To study the variation of hardness of the machined surface of titanium alloy VT3-1, depending on the processing parameters of pulsed laser radiation. It is shown that if the surface heat treatment the hardness can be increased relative to the base material 2–3 times. To reduce the content material of titanium nitride it is necessary to apply protection treatment zone with argon. Application of laser shock wave treatment also increases surface hardness, but it creates compressive stresses on the surface of the part, which can favourably affect the fatigue characteristics.
