Automatic TIG root pass welding, using a non-current-carrying filler wire in the vertical position

Pages 280-283 | Published online: 04 Jan 2010

Abstract

The results of root pass welding trials using automatic TIG in the vertical position, both in the upward and downward directions is described. The welding was carried out introducing a non-current-carrying filler wire and using a modulated welding current. The filler wire, fed synchronously with the weld current modulation, allowed much better control of the weld pool even in this constrained position.
