Comparison between calculations and experimental results in lifetime evaluations

, , &
Pages 639-646 | Published online: 09 Dec 2009

Summary

A comparison is made between methods of creep damage evaluation, such as non‐destructive testing, metallographic examination by means of replicas and theoretical analysis.

This comparison is achieved by the analysis of two case studies which were considered particularly significant due to the contradictory results obtained according to the different methods used. The case studies were drawn from the experience of the Italian Institute of Welding which has the facilities to examine the problem of life extension.
