CO2 laser welding of dissimilar metals

Summary

The research carried out at CETENASA's laser department on the welding of dissimilar metals is summarised here. The metallic pair studied is M-35 and F-143, a high speed steel and a spring steel, respectively. Due to the chemical composition of the alloys involved, the difficulty in obtaining welds with metallurgically acceptable structures is easily understood because of the high cracking degree shown by these materials, particularly M-35. This paper presents the initial results of a wider study in course of development, showing some interesting possibilities with CO2 laser welding.
