Summary
The aerospace and automobile industries favour this type of treatment. There are interesting results in regard to friction, wear and corrosion resistance. The results presented in this article report on experiments using exciplex lasers (sic) for the sole purpose of improving the wear characteristics of certain metals used in the automobile, aeronautical and aerospace industries. The main results concern changes in mechanical (roughness, hardness, stress fields, etc.), physical and chemical properties (surface composition, microstructure, etc.), as well as corrosion resistance.
