Abstract
This paper describes an expert system for evaluation and selection of storage and industrial truck alternatives for warehousing applications. The expert system is called Storage and Industrial Truck Selection Expert System (SITSES). SITSES takes into consideration the warehouse layout, throughput performance indexes, storage capacity requirements, and some operational costs. In addition, SITSES has the capability of performing sensitivity analysis on feasible design combinations. SITSES has been written in OPS 5, and it is intended to be used mainly by facilities layout and material handling engineers. However, its user friendliness makes it appropriate as an educational tool.
