Management of information in a system of heterogeneous distributed data bases using the example of a PCB assemblage

Pages 323-330 | Published online: 25 Jun 2007

Abstract

This article deals with the management of descriptive product and process data in a heterogeneous, distributed, and networked information system environment linked with data bases in a defined factory infrastructure. An increase in the degree of automation requires greater continuity of information flow, beginning with the customer order through to the sensor and actuator layer of manufacturing machinery. This is linked closely with the use of decentralized, networked information systems and their data bases. Particular significance must be attached to the traceability and updating of distributed descriptive product/process data, taking account of the revision service and dispensing with central data maintenance. The updating of data stock for the manufacturing of printed circuit boards is cited here as an example.
