Abstract
The main research and development effort in computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) in Singapore is centred around the GINTIC Institute of CIM. Established in 1985 within Nanyang Technological University (formerly Nanyang Technological Institute), it is one of a number of national R&D centres set up to provide leadership and co-ordination in specific areas of technology, and to advance the levels of these nationally. This paper describes the historical background of the institute and the activities which have been organized to achieve its objectives.
