Abstract
This paper looks at two different approaches to the problem of identifying singly connected features and the closely related problem of defining what constitutes an inner-loop on a cylindrical surface. The two approaches are then combined in an algorithm that can identify multiply connected depressions or protrusions and provide multiple interpretations of a 2·5D component's shape.
