The future of gynecological endocrinology

ORCID Icon

This 2022 issue is an opportunity, as Editor in Chief of Gynecological Endocrinology, together with the editors, to make a balance of our Journal. Our authors are experts in different fields that have contributed the best of their scientific work to the progress of the Journal, positioning important manuscripts in female endocrinology, reproductive medicine, infertility, contraception, or menopause and aging. In this sense, it is a pleasure for me to inform all readers, contributors and collaborators, that despite the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic the Journal to date June 2021 increased its impact factor to 2.26. We expect that by June 2022 it could be higher, basically due to the fact that during these two years we have encouraged strategies focused on promoting new approaches to study endocrine pathophysiology, new diagnostic and therapeutic designs, and systematic reviews/meta-analyses related to gynecological endocrinology.

Another important factor that has increased visibility of the journal has been the reception of submissions from China, Latin America, India, Thailand, among others, where despite the coronavirus times and the scarce availability of funds, research is always a top priority. We recognize their efforts and thank them as well. Finding reviewers for submissions sometimes is a difficult task due to the complexity of new areas of research. In this regard, I would like to thank Associate Editors and Editorial Board members for their dedicated work in conjunction with the kind contribution of those who have served as reviewers for our Journal, especially in controversial topics. Their help is well recognized.

We have encouraged the well-known scientific tradition of including editorials in as many issue as possible regarding innovated or controversial topics. For 2022, we intend to continue this trend approaching hot topics. We thank the efforts of world-wide researchers that have contributed with manuscripts, hoping they will continue to have our Journal in their agenda in the future as a target.

Gynecological Endocrinology is the official journal of the International Society of Gynecological Endocrinology (ISGE), and as such its growth correlates with that of the Society. We thank Prof. Andrea Genazzani, President of the Society, for his continuous support. As coronavirus vaccination rate increases, we hope that in 2022 there will be better times in all aspects: improvement of impact factor, international visibility, increase of spread of knowledge and innovation. Special thanks to the support team of Taylor & Francis, their help has been crucial. Finally, last but not least, I thank Ms. Anna Kamola, our editorial assistant for the time she has dedicated to the Journal and the editors.

I wish our readers, collaborators and researchers a happy and healthy new year 2022. Hoping that the global health situation improves which could enable in the near future the possibility of physically engaging in congresses, seminars and symposias. We personally want to discuss controversies and future projects that will aid in the growing diffusion and impact of Gynecological Endocrinology.
